The research of our group is concerned with cortical mechanisms of visual perception, which we investigate with psychophysical methods and fMRI. Our focus lies mainly on two areas, colour vision and night vision. In colour vision, we investigate how the chromatic signals from the retina are transformed in the cortex so that they become available to a diversity of visual tasks: this includes the representation of colour as an intrinsic property of objects (colour constancy), the interaction between colour and other visual features (texture, depth and motion), and the use of colour for navigation and motor control. In night vision, we investigate how we perceive objects at low light levels and how rod signals are integrated in the cortical processing of visual tasks. Furthermore, we are interested in the consequences of pathological changes of the visual pathways for colour vision and night vision. |
